CANADIENS 'WINTER EGAMES' ONLINE TOURNAMENT RETURNS IN 2023 The Canadiens announced on Wednesday the opening of registration for their second-annual "Winter eGames" tournament that will run online throughout the month of March. The sports-themed eSports competition is presented by Scotiabank in collaboration with Coke Studio and Mise-O-Jeu and powered by Rival. More than $15,000 in prizes will be up for grabs for gamers on both Xbox and PlayStation consoles, and registration is free and open to all.
This year's slate of games features a new addition in MLB The Show 22 which joins Rocket League, NBA 2K23, FIFA 23 and of course NHL 23 as the tournament's virtual competition grounds.
First-place winners for each game on each eligible console will snag some serious loot, including one pair of Club-level tickets to a 2023-24 Canadiens home game, a Heritage Collection kit courtesy of Scotiabank, a $150 Tricolore Sports gift card, and an EA Sports title of choice from the publisher's current catalog. Secondary prizes will also be awarded to runners-up in each bracket, in addition to participation prizes that will be drawn randomly among all those who register and play at least one game.
Qualifiers begin March 1 (MLB The Show 22) through March 23 (FIFA 23) and the deadline to register for a tournament is one hour before its start time. The event culminates with the NHL 23 finals on March 26, which will also be streamed live on the team's official Twitch channel LIL WAYNE REVEALED FOR NBA 2K23 MYTEAM MODE IN NEW GAMEPLAY TRAILER Lil Wayne is making his way to NBA 2K23 MyTeam, the Grammy-winning rapper and 2K Sports announced Thursday.
Fans will be able to earn Lil Wayne's card by completing his Spotlight Challenge. Based on the video released by 2K Sports, the "A Milli" rapper will come in at an 89 overall rating.
Given Wayne's diminutive stature—he stands just 5'5"—it's hard to see many gamers actually using him much in competitive game action. 2K might have been able to boost his stats enough to get him dunking, but using a 5'5" guard is just asking to be blocked near the rim and his margin for error on jumpers won't be great.
That said, in offline modes, it will be a cool experience for fans to have Wayne taking opposing players to the hole. FIFA 23 TEAM OF THE WEEK 16 PREDICTIONS Another week... another Team of the Week (TOTW)! Here's who we think will make the cut in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team.
The highlight here simply has to be Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite his move to Saudi Arabia, he is still one of football's and FIFAs biggest stars and there is no doubt that he will be one of the most expensive items in this TOTW. He is almost a deadset after netting four for his new side, Al-Nassr.
A player who made his mark in a huge game was Wissam Ben-Yedder. The French goalscoring machine bagged two and got an assist against Paris Saint Germain. FIFA fans won't know whether to laugh or cry if he does get this item. He is notoriously very overpowered in the FIFA franchise.
Premier League trio David De Gea, James Maddison and Riyad Mahrez also make our prediction. No one would complain if they found any of them in their Ultimate Team pack. They all endured fantastic games for their respective clubs.
Barcelona's wonderkid Pedri could also make the cut, with another fantastic game scoring once again. But, let's be honest - with the sheer talent the Spaniard possesses, he could be in EAs selection every week.
The Dynamic TOTW item will most likely go to Alexis Sanchez, giving him a super juiced card that will reflect his former years.
TOTW 16 in FIFA 23 will be released at 6 PM GMT on Wednesday 15th February 2023 and will be available in packs for a week. MARIO BALOTELLI IS RUMORED TO RECEIVE A FLASHBACK SBC CARD IN FIFA 23 ULTIMATE TEAM Based on leaks by FIFATradingRomania on Twitter, Balotelli will receive a Flashback SBC variant in the coming days. This is rather fitting due to the nature of the ongoing event in FIFA 23 due to Balotelli's stature as a former Future Star during his days at Manchester City.
Mario Balotelli had his fair share of success and stardom at the top level of the sport during the early stages of his career. His performances for Manchester City and the Italian national team earned him the nickname of Super Mario, as he led his team to victory with his dominant style of play as a striker.
His lethal goalscoring ability and domineering physical presence made him a menace for any defensive lineup to deal with, and while he is no longer at the peak of his powers, his Flashback version will restore him to his former glory on the virtual pitch of FIFA 23.
While the exact overall rating and attributes of the leaked Flashback card are still tentative, FIFATradingRomania included a prediction with his Tweet, suggesting that the 88-rated card will possess the following key stats:
· Pace: 91
· Dribbling: 86
· Shooting: 88
· Defending: 38
· Passing: 79
· Physicality: 91
This is a significant improvement over his base rating in FIFA 23, and while his new club and league might not be ideal for chemistry links, he will undoubtedly be viable in the current meta of the game. PREMIER LEAGUE NEARING $600M EXTENSION WITH EA The Premier League and Electronic Arts are reportedly nearing an extension doubling the rights fees paid under the current deal.
The league’s 20 clubs were briefed last week on a six-year extension worth nearly $600 million, Sky News reported on Friday. The Premier League will receive $97 million annually — nearly $5 million per team — over the course of the yet-to-be-announced deal.
“FIFA” has been part of the game’s branding since EA released its first console soccer game on the Sega Genesis in 1993, but announced it was ending its exclusive deal with EA in May.
But despite FIFA’s withdrawal, EA has now made deals with more than 300 partners spanning more than 700 teams and about 19,000 athletes.
- EA and MLS — partners since 1999 — extended their current deal in August.
- Also in August, La Liga and EA agreed to a five-year deal worth a reported $30.5 million annually.
- In 2021, EA agreed to an extension with UEFA that came with the exclusive rights to the UEFA Champions League.
The title, which will now be called “EA Sports FC,” has racked up more than $20 billion in sales over the last 20 years.
